Monique’s story

MoNique’s journey as an artist began amidst the vibrant landscapes of South Africa, where she faced numerous challenges as a single mother. Balancing the demands of motherhood and the financial strains of everyday life, she often found herself struggling to make ends meet. The weight of a toxic relationship further compounded her difficulties, as those around her insisted that “art is not a job” and doubted her ability to succeed.

Despite these hardships, MoNique never let go of her passion for art.

After returning to South Africa from a difficult period in Emmen, she began to rebuild her life and her confidence. She embraced her identity as an artist, likening herself to a rose—beautiful and elegant, yet resilient with thorns. This metaphor became a central theme in her work, celebrating the strength and beauty inherent in femininity.

With newfound determination, MoNique poured her heart into her paintings. Her early works featured stunning floral compositions, which gradually evolved into captivating portraits. Each piece she creates starts with a base of turquoise, symbolizing the beginning of her journey and the potential for growth and transformation.

MoNique’s art is currently exhibited and sold exclusively in Belgium and Cape Town, South Africa. She envisions her website as an online gallery, making her work accessible to art lovers worldwide. With a goal of hosting two exhibitions per year, she continues to share her story and inspire others through her art.
